Daily habits that can slow down hair loss

Our lifestyle and our daily habits play a major role in our health. From what we eat to how we feel, it all affects our physical health but also our mental heath. Just like we can alter our lifestyle in order to promote our overall wellness, we can also make a few simple changes in our everyday life in order to slow down hair loss. The first and most important step in improving our lifestyle is understanding the major elements that are affecting us. This also means that we must try to understand the causes of our hair loss.   That’s how we are going to know what changes we can make to our daily habits.

Simple lifestyle changes that can slow down hair loss

Hair Care Routine

  • Always keep in mind, that when it comes to hair care products, more expensive does not necessarily mean better. The only thing that matters, is choosing the products that contain the right ingredients for your specific hair type.
  • Don’t forget to use a heat protective spraywhen using blowdryers, hair straighteners or other tools that use heat.
  • Try natural hair masks at home to treat simple issues such as dry hair or a dry scalp.
  • Over-brushing your hair or pulling it back too tight can become problematic.
  • Always remember that you can seek professional help for any questions you may have about the dos and don’ts of your hair routine.

Diet & Nutritional Supplements

  • If you aren’t getting enough beneficial hair-building nutrients from the food you consume, it may lead to hair thinning.
  • Eating a balanced dietis the key to starting to see changes. Make sure you consumesufficient amounts of proteins, b-vitamins, beta-carotene, good fats and vitamin A. You can find these nutrients in meat, fish, nuts, berries, and green leafy vegetables.
  • Taking a multivitamin can also be a good idea if you don’t consume sufficient amounts of these nutrients. Consult a doctor or pharmacist before choosing your supplements.

Stress

Stress is one of the most important factors that we have to consider when dealing with any kind of health issue but of course with hair loss as well. If you feel stressed, hair loss can be your body’s way of telling you that you need a break. Science supports the notion that significant emotional stress may be linked to at least one type of hair loss: telogen effluvium. Telogen effluvium is characterized by the abrupt onset of hair loss. The hair loss usually doesn’t begin until about three months after a stressful event. Once hair follicles prematurely enter the telogen phase, it takes about three months for the cycle to complete and for the hair to shed. Stress is one of several triggers of telogen effluvium; medications, severe illness, and giving birth can also trigger an episode.
